Metropolitan Energy Center
Founded in response to the energy crisis of the late 1970's, the center is one of the last independent, nonprofit, community-based energy agencies in the country. Whether in times of energy uncertainty or in times of relative stability, the mission of the Metropolitan Energy Center has remained the same--to `involve people individually and collectively in the management and control of their energy use.'
New Earth
Some things we do for money. Like work. Other things we do just because. Because it feels right, down deep. Like reading to our kids. Joining with friends to clean up the park. Doing these things, we become more capable, more free. We build up our communities, strengthen the wider world, and the future. Some things that we need, money can buy. Like food and shelter. Other things that we need can't be bought. They have to be created through action and connection. Like community. Help from a friend. Teamwork. Clean air. Literacy. Peace. Block parties. Love. We enrich our lives by doing more of those things that money can't do for us. New Earth is about providing the basic resources for doing just that. To start that project with your neighbors, you'll need information, seed money, ideas, and maybe some help.
